Wu mainly works in animation and painting on paper, but his artistic output extends far beyond the traditional media to gifs and emoticons as well as tattoo and graffiti on the body. He is known for his unique approach and aesthetics, combining the Chinese vernacular from his childhood with the Western classics from art school training. His works often feature the juxtaposition of eastern and western mythologies and humorous wordplay to expose the fragility and absurdity of modern life and to demonstrate a sensitivity and concern for social themes. His works have been shown at galleries and museums around the world, including Denver Art Museum, White Rabbit Gallery, Groninger Museum, Saatchi Gallery, Korea’s National Museum of Contemporary Art, Daegu Art Museum, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, and in major museum in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other leading Chinese cities. In 2023, he has a 10-month solo exhibition at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
